DescriptionMusculoskeletal disorders are the most common cause of serious long-term pain and physical disability, affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Diseases of the joints are the major chronic diseases in the elderly, almost one in every 8 Americans and almost 50% of people aged over 65 have osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease. Doctors Genovese, Andriacchi, Smith and Goodman cooperate with the wide variety of basic and applied research at Stanford advanced to clarify the causes and describe the progression of arthritis and new treatments for early diagnosis and treatment formulation. They have a vision for the future where people with arthritis will experience reduced pain and improved mobility and function as a result of this work.
